Field notes
What to expect on your first trek in Nepal
A practical note on pace, teahouses and the small details that make a first Himalayan trek feel manageable.
A first trek in Nepal is less about heroic distances and more about rhythm. The best itineraries leave room for a slow start, a proper lunch and an early arrival at the teahouse before the afternoon clouds settle in.
Pack for layers rather than a single heavy jacket. Mornings and evenings are cool even in the warmer months, and a dry bag for your sleeping bag is worth the small extra weight.
Most importantly, tell your guide how you are feeling. A good guide will adjust the pace before a small niggle becomes a reason to turn around.
